Why Kym?

Kym offers a wise head and a caring ear.

Kym’s approach is unique. She starts from a deep understanding of how we communicate with ourselves, and others. This is based on her long working life specialising in communication, and her study and practice of compassionate communication (developed as non-violent communication by therapist Dr Marshall Rosenberg).

She combines this with three established and proven approaches to counselling and therapy:

  • ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy)
  • SFBT (solution-focused brief therapy)
  • CBT (cognitive based therapy)

This combination is powerful because, together, they address the whole person – our thoughts, feelings, behaviours. They show us how these are linked, and how change can occur from any of these points.

This combination is also highly effective in helping us get in touch with our deepest values, our feelings and needs, the relationships we want, and the choices we make in getting there.

How we communicate with ourselves, and others, is foundational to this approach. Because it is through our language that we make relationships with ourselves and each other, make sense of the world and express who we are.
