Support in four main areas
Get care and support for specific problems you are dealing with:
Relationship stress
Relationship counselling can help. It lets you build skills that allow you to be seen and heard and find common ground. I see individuals and couples around relationship stress. (Note that couples counselling sessions are in-person only).
Anxiety around work or personal situations
Counselling provides a safe space to explore the dynamics of what’s happened, and is happening, and how you can find a productive way forward.
Many other situations in life also bring stress and worry. For example, we may have self-defeating habits. We may be experiencing emotional strain from dealing with family pressures or conflict – ageing parents and how to care for them, estrangement, an unexpected diagnosis or ill health. Perhaps we are in a new stage of life, such as a new baby, relocation, divorce, retirement. We struggle with our fears, even when we see new opportunities too.
Counselling helps you to deal better with difficult situations and lessen their negative toll on our lives. However, it’s more than reducing a problem. Anxiety counselling helps us reinforce what we truly care about and act proactively.
Overwhelm and perfectionism
On the surface we have many things going for us, yet we second-guess ourselves, label ourselves and compare ourselves negatively to others. We can feel overwhelmed, striving to meet our high standards or being there for others. We may realise we are perfectionists or people pleasers, or we may just sense discomfort in our own skin.
Counselling helps us find a new healthy relationship with ourselves. We look at the thoughts we hold to be true and where these came from, as well as past needs that weren’t met and how we can be there for ourselves going forward.
Feeling stuck or cannot cope
It’s not uncommon for highly capable people, problem solvers, to hit a wall. We are stopped in our tracks because the way we’ve been going is over. Something huge and unexpected happens, or we experience burnout from an overload of small demands and problems. It can also be a sizeable inner shift: we realise in our core that our life has changed, and nothing is the same. We aren’t sure of what’s next.
Counselling helps us to step back and take stock, to get to know ourselves better, to listen to ourselves and what we are yearning for, and to use unrecognized resources to build a path forward.
It can also be a sizeable inner shift: we realise in our core that our life has changed, and nothing is the same. We aren’t sure of what’s next.
