My promise to you
I work in accordance with the Australian Counselling Association Code of Ethics and here is my promise to you:
“Be reassured that we will discuss what you want, and I will listen without judgement.
You are my priority and I will support you, in every way I can, to deal with the
situation you’re facing.”
You can say whatever you’re thinking and feeling without impacting others in any way. Nothing leaves the room. (Note: there is a rare exception, and this applies in all counselling: if it’s court-ordered, notes must be given to the court. I take restricted notes so this will not overly expose you.)
Impartiality
My only agenda is to support you. I will not impose my values or wishes on you.
Safety
I will always work to stay within the limits of what is emotionally safe for you. I will challenge you at times but will care for your wellbeing in doing so.
Respect
You will be treated as an equal at all times, and the expert on your life.
Attention
You can expect my full attention.
Practicality
We will always return to practical action, how to apply what we’re talking about, what is possible to do.
Freedom
You can choose not to answer nor to participate in any activity, and this is perfectly ok. You can answer or not answer as you like. This is up to you and perfectly ok.
Choice
You decide how many sessions you want and when. You can rebook at the end of a session or contact me at a later time.
Responsiveness
I promise every effort to meet your needs. If you’d like to go faster or slower, change what we’re doing, or have any other feedback, in any respect, I will welcome this and make changes.
Openness
If I feel that I am not the best fit for you or there’s a conflict of interest, I will be upfront about this and, if you’d like, make a referral.
