Common questions
Is this counselling different from others?
It is a bit different from many you’ll find. Firstly, you’ll be seen for the whole person you are, not just the problem that prompted your call – as painful as that motivation is.
We’ll spend time discussing where you are at, and what’s bothering you: we’ll also explore how you’d like your situation to evolve. Through talking you’ll find a larger perspective and more hope for realising your dreams.
Secondly, by linking to what’s most meaningful to you, you can expect to feel inspired, at least somewhat. This will help energise you in moving towards greater fulfilment.
My counselling sessions are built upon sound evidence-based practices to help you achieve the change you are seeking. They are also informed by proven coaching principles.
In our sessions, you’ll have the space and support to peel away the layers, to know at a deeper level what you’re seeking. To identify your values, personal qualities and resources that will make change possible.
You’ll have the opportunity to set goals that reflect the outcome you seek, despite old patterns and challenges and, importantly, to take the very next step forward.
What if I live outside Brisbane?
I offer telehealth sessions – by video or telephone – wherever you live in Australia. This type of counselling can be as effective as in-person and allows you to gain compassionate support for moving in the direction you want.
What if I can’t make the appointment?
Just contact me as soon as possible to reschedule: no charge applies. Reluctantly, I will need to charge you $100 if it’s within 6 hours of your appointment, or you do not show for your appointment as I have kept our session time free and cannot fill it.
Do you see couples?
Yes, I do. However, I offer in-person sessions only.
Do you see children?
I do not currently see children. Clients are 18 years old and over.
Do you offer coaching?
Not per se. I offer counselling sessions that are influenced by coaching principles. Coaching emphasises your desired outcomes rather than problems and this is how I approach our sessions.
Am I eligible for a rebate?
As a committed counsellor abiding by professional standards, I choose to run my practice without ties to Medicare or health funds, which means no rebates, sorry. The fee is what you pay. The good news is that you are not subject to GP pre-approvals, nor is mental health information kept about you by Medicare. And lower overheads allow me to keep fees lower. If you like simplicity, privacy and not having to fit in with government requirements, you’ll like me.
Can I get a discount?
I do understand household budgets can be very stretched at the moment. If you’d like to speak to me about this, please do. I will do what I can to make sessions affordable for you.
What’s the difference between a psychologist and counsellor?
There’s increasing crossover, however, a psychologist tends to diagnose and treat mental health conditions, while a counsellor focuses on where a person is today and wants to be, and strategies to improve one’s life.
I welcome enquiries. Also, your feedback is extremely valuable to me. Feel free to phone me or email anytime.
