What difference will counselling make?
What you want is very personal, and our sessions will always be unique to you. However, it’s common to change in these ways:
From Self-Criticism to Self-Compassion
Usually, we are unaware how negative we are with ourselves. When things are delayed or go wrong, we blame and label ourselves – we focus on what’s not working and constantly find ourselves wanting. We can be very good at covering these thoughts, but underneath we aren’t truly comfortable with ourselves.
Counselling lets us see what patterns are not serving our best interests, and ways to replace them. When we transform the critical voice with understanding and acceptance, we learn to give ourselves what we crave. Not only does this improve our lives, but it also improves all our relationships.
From Win: Lose to Win: Win
We are conditioned from when we are young to see limitations, and to think in polarized ways. For example, we may hold tight to the belief that we have to sacrifice ourselves for those we love, or that others get their way at our expense.
Counselling does not argue with you, but it frequently triggers a realization that both your needs and those of others can be met if we can look at things differently. Skills can be built for win: win communication.
From Safety to Blooming
Many people are caught in a survival pattern: we perceive risks everywhere, react to protect ourselves, and produce stress constantly. We become hyper-sensitive to our environment and find it hard to truly relax.
While it’s vital to stay alive and, indeed, are designed to do so, we can learn to live more calmly. Counselling helps us to be more discerning about danger, so we use opportunities to grow and live a richer, fuller life.
